Start slow, build good habits

It’s easy to want to rush and get that handgun out of the holster as quickly as possible, but that’s an easy way to build bad muscle memory. When learning the proper technique of drawing from a holster, it is important to start slow. Starting slow when learning any new technique helps build correct muscle memory and identify incorrect or inefficient movements in our technique.

When I push myself in a competition, I’m achieving sub one second draw times. But when I’m training, I rarely push my speed to its limits. I’m able to focus more on correct technique and good muscle memory by keeping my speed manageable, which increases my top speed for when I need it.
