Every lifestyle, industry, and hobby is full of people who talk big and cannot follow through on the talk. This lack of follow through is often due to willful ignorance and baseless bravado, but it is often due to people over-estimating their skill and knowledge. The firearms world is no exception.

There are a lot of conceal carriers out there who treat a firearm as a magical self defense wand that can ward off all attackers with a simple wave. There are also many conceal carriers who consider themselves firearms experts but have no idea what a true expert is capable of with a pistol.

This is where the competition world comes into play. It acts as quantifiable measurement of skill and capabilities, plus acting as an excellent method of honing many skills that you cannot get at a firing line at a single target.

In this episode I go over many of the reasons a practical pistol shooting competition is one of the best things a conceal carrier can pursue, such as:

  • It is a lot of fun
  • Competition breeds excellence
  • Practice skills you cannot practice elsewhere
  • Practice shooting under stress
  • Improve subconscious shooting

If you are a conceal carrier who has never competed before or has been to one or two competitions, but doesn’t really compete, this is the episode for you.

If you do compete and your friends don’t, send this episode their way and try to get them interested.
