Earlier this week, Michael Grace Jr attempted to rob a Pizza Hut employee with a gun. Let me say that again, this man tried to rob a Pizza Hut employee with a gun. The Pizza Hut employee was legally armed and defended himself against the criminal with a gun and Michael Grace Jr, shooting the robber in the head and killing him. Now the parents, Temia Hairston and Michael Grace Sr, are upset – not at their son, but at the self defender. They claim the Pizza Hut employee should not have been armed.
“Why in the hell did this guy have a gun?” said Hairston
It is pretty abundantly clear why the unnamed Pizza Hut employee had a gun, to defend him/herself against armed robbers threatening with lethal force.
Lethal Self Defense is Justified Against Lethal Force
Yet despite their son being the criminal, parents Temia Hairston and Michael Grace Sr, do not believe the Pizza Hut employee was justified in defending himself against an armed attacker.
“If there was to be a death, it was not the place of the employee at Pizza Hut. That is the place of law enforcement.” said Hairston.
First off, it is not the job of police to be the judge, jury, and executioner. It is NOT the place of law enforcement to kill people. It is the job of law enforcement to avoid killing people and apprehend criminals without resorting to lethal force, but that is not always possible.
Second, law abiding Americans have the right to defend themselves. Criminals do not have the right to safe crime, and the Pizza Hut employee was definitely justified in defending him/herself based on the information we have available.
America is in a sad place when people are unable to recognize that people have the right to defend their life against those who sho intend to do harm. People do not wish to take responsibility for their own actions and wish to blame others.
