I’ve said it before and I will say it many more times in the future – a gun is not a magical self defense wand. A gun won’t fix every situation and a gun can make things worse if you don’t know what you’re doing with it. This is why knowing how to use your conceal carry handgun is so important.
People carry firearms and still end up losing a violent encounter. This often happens because they don’t know how to use their tool and/or they aren’t paying attention to what’s going on around them.
If you want to conceal carry a firearm, you have to accept the responsibility. Accepting the responsibility means becoming proficient with your tool. A mere 30 minutes a week can make a huge difference.
Being able to put holes in paper 5 yards ahead of you does NOT cover all of the skills required to put the odds in your favor should the worst happen.
Get training – and get good training that goes beyond group shooting.
The reason why the author makes this claim is because most conceal carriers train more than most cops.
But everyone has room to improve their training.
A great way to get better is to try out competitive shooting. You don’t have to strive to be competitive, simply use competition as a training method. Besides, local club matches are tons of fun!
This is why training is so important. What if you are confronted with multiple armed suspects?
But not only do you need to know HOW to use your self defense tool, but you also need to know WHEN to use it.
What would you say #4 is?
I think it’s close between not being aware enough of their surroundings and not attending classes.
Here’s a class I most recently went to, and it was extremely fun and well worth it.
The Latest 2nd Amendment News
Constitutional Carry is spreading across the US.
But while many states are passing pro-gun legislation, Hawaii legislators are calling for a straight up repeal of the 2nd Amendment.
With all of the things wrong in the world, rape, murder, robbery, and more. Two Florida lawmakers want to make it a crime for a photo of a kid with a nerf gun to get posted online.
Not only is this anti 2nd Amendment, this is anti 1st Amendment. Murderers can get probation, but these two representatives want to put people in jail for up to a full year for a photo of a kid with a gun.
