Sig Sauer Academy Shows How to Shoot on the Move Pistol Drill

Shooting on the move is a very important skill for conceal carriers and competition shooters. Unfortunately most ranges don’t allow this type of shooting. I strongly recommend seeking out a range with tactical bays that allow for training shooting on the move, it’s more difficult than video games make it seem.

Dry fire training at home

These same drills can be done at home while dry fire training. When starting out, pulling the trigger isn’t even needed to train for shooting on the move. Simply walk back and forth, and side to side while keeping your pistol or rifle focused on a target.

As your skills improve, and only after skills improve, slowly up your speed. Don’t be in a rush to move faster while shooting. Obtain the foundational shooting skills first to prevent bad habits from forming.

Mix and match the drills

Like all firearms training drills, shooting on the move can easily be mixed and matched with other drills like drawing from a holster, reloads, multiple target engagement, and more.

Be it dry fire or live fire, these shooting drills are an excellent way to becoming a better shooter.

I don't consider myself a competition shooter - I think of myself as a performance pistol shooter. I am all about performing at as high of a level as possible. Towards that end, I am obsessive about learning how to perform. I spend a lot of my life learning from the best across the entire firearms world and even into other areas of performance and other sports. I am a USPSA Carry Optics Grandmaster, currently working towards my second GM title in the Open division.
