On the morning of November 28, 2016, a little before 10am, an Ohio State student rammed pedestrians with his vehicle before jumping out and slashing students with a butcher knife. Within one minute an Ohio State University Police Officer, Alan Horujko, shot and killed the attacker, identified as Abdul Razak Ali Artan.

The incident was originally reported as a mass shooting on a college campus and the Ohio State campus was put on lock down, sending out an alert message that said, “Buckeye Alert: Active Shooter on campus. Run Hide Fight. Watts Hall. 19th and College.”

Terrorism has not been ruled out. Columbus Police Chief said, “That’s why our federal partners are here and helping,” she said. “I think we have to consider that it is.”

This is yet another attack that has taken place on a gun free campus as campus carry is not allowed in the state of Ohio.

We need nation wide campus carry

How many more attacks like this do we need before lawmakers allow students defend themselves? Students are instructed by authorities to “run, hide, fight” but deliberately prevent students from carrying the best tool possible for defending themselves, a firearm.

The common argument is that kids are not mature enough to conceal carry a firearm on a college campus, even though they are allowed to join the military and go to war at 18. Even so, students must be 21 in order to conceal carry a firearm, which means most students are not old enough to conceal carry a firearm. Even then, what is so special about the boundaries of a college campus? Why is conceal carry somehow only a bad idea on a college campus, but perfectly fine elsewhere? Furthermore, if it is such a bad idea, why have the blood bath predictions by anti-gunners not come true in the states, like Texas, that do allow for campus carry?

Please contact your representatives at the state and national level and urge them to pass campus carry. Let us put an end to these gun free zones, or “victim zones” as I prefer to call them.
